Panzer II ausf D/E - The war came early for the Panzer force and they were forced to employ the Panzer II as an actual combat weapon. Intended originally for training and doctrinal development the Panzer II was a durable and reliable vehicle. When the Battle of France started, the Panzer II was the most numerous tank in the Panzer divisions. While soon superseded by other tanks with heavier armor and larger guns, the Panzer II served in various capacities until the end of the war.
