The Joint Security Area (JSA) is a section of the Korean Demilitarized Zone (DMZ) where North and South Korean forces confront each other and where diplomatic talks occur. The United Nations Command Support Group is the military component that evolved into the UN Security Battalion - JSA (UNCSB-JSA), founded in 1952 to provide security and support for the armistice negotiations, a role it continues today. The UNCSB-JSA is a combined UNC-ROK (Republic of Korea) unit responsible for maintaining security at the JSA, providing diplomatic security, enforcing the Armistice Agreement, and protecting the only South Korean village within the DMZ.
